Last week it was announced that the Colombian president, Juan Manuel Santos, had cancer and was to be operated upon. Now, a little over a week later- and he is back to full health. To many people, they are glad their president has recovered and is well, but to others this instance points out to the great inequalities that exist here in Colombia. The picture bemoans that in 6 days, Santos was diagnosed, operated upon and recovered from his cancer – while in this time other Colombians are sent home with paracetamol and told to wait for an appointment with a specialist, and some even die.
I don’t know how true this is, as no sources are given and clearly Internet images shared via Facebook are hardly reliable fact-wise: but I think it shows an interesting perspective held by some Colombians; that their government is corrupt, and that inequalities in society are unjust and need to be changed.
